Dear Real Talk,
Is a church wedding necessary? Must a couple have a church wedding for their marriage to be blessed by God?
I’m so confused and don’t know what to do. My fiancé and I are getting married in less than three months. Our plan has always been to have the traditional marriage and just sign in court. No church wedding or reception.
I informed my Pastor about our plans and he’s opposing strongly to it. He said if we refuse we do a church wedding, the church will not recognize or announce our marriage in church.
I was shocked and thought he’ll get over it, but it’s three months to our wedding and he’s still insisting. He also refused to attend the marriage ceremony as a guest if it’s not in the church or he is not the one officiating.
I’m worried because he’s my Pastor and I respect him but I don’t want a church wedding. That has never been our plan. My fiancé and I go the same church I’m just more active in church than him so the Pastor knows me more.
My Pastor is saying marrying outside of the presence of God that is outside of church will not bring blessings in my marriage but I doubt that. I’m very disturbed and don’t know what to do.
